Use of feminine
hygiene materials
Lysol solution is an example of feminine hygiene products.
In 1930 when contraceptive products are illegal, ‘hygiene products’ mask contraceptives
by referring them as for feminine hygiene. There had been other products as powders,
deodorants, sprays and suppositories. These were intended for birth control and
at the same time to eliminate strong vaginal odors. Lysol was used as a douche
after sex but was later discouraged. Lysol and the other feminine hygiene
materials were not only proven as ineffective, they had been harmful to the female
genitalia as well.
